We’re entering into cold and flu season, I’ve been doubling down on my immune-boosting tricks. Even if you’re already eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, eating less sugar, getting in regular exercise, getting lots of sleep and seeing plenty of sunshine sometimes our bodies need a little extra boost.

And, I wanted to start doing this before we got sick as a preventative measure instead of trying to jump on it once someone does get sick.

This immunity shots recipe is made without a juicer, you just need a blender and a few simple ingredients, plus something like a mason jar to store them in.

And, if you’re not big on pulp, a fine mesh strainer will come in handy too.

What’s In an Immunity Shot?

So, what is exactly is in these immunity shots? Amazing, immune-supporting whole foods and herbs that not only taste delicious, but give a serious punch (in a good way!) to your system.

Turmeric

Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It can also enhance our bodies’ antibody response to help fight infections faster. Plus, it tastes pretty good. You can take turmeric as a supplement, or use it in cooking as well. A good warming curry dish sounds pretty good, right?

Ginger

Ginger is both antibacterial and anti-parasitic. It’s also known for having powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, just like turmeric. You can add ginger to any fresh-pressed juice for an immune boost, add it to dishes, or even enjoy it in tea. Just boil water with ginger and then add lemon and a drizzle of honey.

Coconut Water

Coconut water has antiviral and antibacterial properties. It’s also full of electrolytes which help to keep us more hydrated. Staying hydrated when you’re feeling sick is essential!

Orange or Lemon

As you probably know, oranges, as well as other citrus fruits, are packed with vitamin C. Vitamin C can increases the production of white blood cells which helps your body fight viruses, making it an essential ingredient in our immunity shots recipe!

Raw Honey

According to this article, raw honey can activate the immune response to infection. Isn’t nature totally awesome? It also helps cut the spicy, tart taste from the other ingredients and makes it delicious.

You could also use manuka honey, which is full of antioxidants and nutrients and can support your respiratory system and overall health. You can mix in a teaspoon with tea to help ease a sore throat as well.

How to Quickly Make this 5-Ingredient Immunity Shots Recipe When Feel Sick

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup fresh turmeric root, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh ginger root, roughly chopped
  • 3 1/2 cups unsweetened coconut water (regular water works too)
  • 1/4 cup lemon or orange juice
  • 1-2 Tbsp raw honey, bonus points if you use manuka honey

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to a high speed blender, I love my Vitamix and we use it every day for making smoothies—the recipe for my favorite gut-healing smoothie is here.
  2. Blend until smooth, pour into a mason jar, seal and keep in the fridge.
  3. Make sure to shake the jar well before pouring as pulp will settle on the bottom.

Whenever you’re feeling under the weather, try drinking 4oz of this spicy elixir 1-2 times per day—once in the morning (it really wakes you up!) and once in the evening.

If you’re finding that the pulp is a little too much for you, you can use a fine mesh-strainer to take some or all of the pulp out.

To give yourself and extra boost, consider adding some supplements that support immune function. These preventative measures can help boost our immune systems and keep us healthy all winter long.

As great as supplements are, don’t forget that you can’t just take a supplement and hope for the best. Getting adequate sleep, eating plenty of fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains and legumes will help keep you healthy and also help greatly with gut health. Since our immune system lives in our gut, the two go hand in hand!

I’m also a big believer that our mindset can completely transform our health, and for me, knowing that I’m being proactive and have control in that aspect always makes me feel better! If you haven’t tried meditation, it’s a wonderful practice to keep you calm, focused and self-aware.

What have you been doing to help keep you and your family health this year?

BTW, how to naturally boost your immune system, and how to heal the gut.
